COMMUNITY CENTER FOLDS

LOMPICO LOOSES PARK

LCC PRESIDENT SITES
LACK OF COMMUNITY INTEREST / INVOLVEMENT

No, it hasn't happened... But it could if you don't get involved. I encourage everyone in the Lompico Community to attend the upcoming meeting before Lompico looses this benefit forever.

What is The Lompico Community Center?

The Lompico Community Center is a Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation formed and run by Lompico Residents (volunteers). The LCC relies on membership, grants and donations of money, time and materials. The LCC recieved no government money. Dues/Donations are tax deducatable.

What is Lompico Park?

Lompico Park is located on Lompico Road just past Carrol Avenue. It's also known as the "Lompico Pool" though the Department of Fish and Game has not permitted us to damn up the creek in many years. The park is owned by the LCC whom is responsible for all maintenance and improvements.

What happens if the LCC folds?

The soda machine, pay phone and garbage cans will be removed. Electricity to the bus shelter and lights will be disconnected. Park ownership would revert to the county who has no interest in maintaining it. They would fence it off and attempt to sell it. It cannot be developed for anything other than a park, so who's going to buy it? It will sit, slowely becoming an eye sore, attracting crime, graffiti and drugs.

The bus shelter was built through an agreement between the LCC and County Transit. Given that the LCC maintains it and County Transit has cut service way back, chances are that Lompico will loose it also.

How can we stop this from happening?

By becoming involved. Your membership dues helps us cover our costs but your involvement is much more impotant. We desperately need volunteers to staff committees, write grant requests, organize activities and drive the direction of the organization.

I can't afford the membership fee

This won't stop you from being a member. If you are on a fixed income, unemployed, or otherwise financially challenged just submit a short note explaining your situation along with the membership form. The LCC Board will review your application and may waive the fees.

The LCC is the park, I don't use the park

The park is our core. We must keep insurance on it, maintain it and address safety issues.

There is so much more the LCC can do, but it can only be done with the support and involvement of the community. Road maintenance, disater preparedness, alternate routes in & out of the canyon and crime prevention are just some of the issues that the LCC could be addressing. We'd also like to be able to sponsor more events and activities for the community.

The Bottom Line

The LCC cannot continue without support from you and the rest of the community. A handfull of people are working hard to keep it alive but, if it doesn't receive more community involvement, it's a loosing battle. The attendance numbers at the upcoming meeting will decide if the LCC lives or dies. Don't think others will show up so you can get away without attending. If you don't attend and the LCC dies you can only blame yourself.
