Dear Friends,

As I am sure most of you are all too aware, the future of California State Park system is in a state of uncertainty right now. As an organization who has been devoted to creating, expanding, and preserving our state parks for over a century, this situation is of great concern to everyone at Sempervirens Fund. We have been doing everything that we can to help assure that the parks remain open, including writing and signingonto numerous letters to the Governor, the Budget Committee, and legislative officials. Now I am asking youwhose support for Sempervirens has been vital to the State Parks of the Santa Cruz Mountainsto help out as well.

Last week, the Legislatures Budget Conference Committee voted to eliminate $70 million in General Fund support for the state park system for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. However, they also voted to enact the State Park Access Pass( http://e2ma.net/go/2137558245/1950684/72281204/12526/goto:http://www.cal... ). If approved, this proposal would create a $15 vehicle registration fee which would give all drivers with Californialicense plates free access to all State Parks. This is a win-win situation for all involved: the state would save $143 million dollars annually from its general fund, the parks would remain open and continue to generate revenue, and those with the
$15 Access Pass would have unlimited access to 279 parks.

The legislative vote for this proposal was divided, so it is important that everyone who supports the State Parks voice their opinion. Send a message today to your legislator supporting ( http://e2ma.net/go/2137558245/1950684/72281202/12526/goto:http://ga3.org... ) the State Park Access Pass and urging the Legislature to save our State Parks!

Sincerely,
